Qynapse releases new validation results of QyScore® performance
QyScore®, the software by Qynapse that provides automated volumetric measurements of brain structures, takes a big step forward with the validation of performance for one of its major functionalities.
The validation study (conducted in 2018) focuses on the performance of the QyScore® method for white matter lesions segmentation detectable on MRI scans as hyperintense areas. The performance of QyScore® was validated in comparison with manual segmentation made by neurologists.
- The performance of QyScore® was compared to manual analysis on patients with a wide range of lesion loads, pathologies and scan manufacturers ;
- Manual segmentations were performed by three experts ;
- The study included MRI brain scans from 130 patients.
Results show excellent agreement between manual and automated lesion segmentation for the whole dataset, confirming that the measures provided within minutes by QyScore® automated method of lesions quantification are a valuable tool for clinical routine and clinical trials. “The comparison with real-world analysis by clinicians shows how accurate and powerful our solution is,” underlines Clarisse Longo Dos Santos, VP in charge of clinical development at Qynapse. “Those results are very good news for Qynapse, for the medical community and for patient care.”
MRI applications to understand brain damage
Quantitative analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data has become useful in both research and clinical studies, and crucial for the diagnosis and disease monitoring of patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia. These pathologies are characterized by the presence of white matter or lesions, detectable on MRI scans as hyperintense areas on T2-weighed Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery (FLAIR) images.
|The potential of QyScore®
QyScore® includes an automated method for lesion segmentation developed to support manual segmentation, which is highly time-consuming and prone to significant intra- and inter-rater variability. QyScore® allows for a broader application of MRI analysis, especially in the context of clinical trials or clinical routine.
The QyScore® performance study is part of the work conducted by Philippe Tran, PhD student in Neuroscience with Qynapse.
